We will discuss the computer lab rules, begin defining buzzwords and locate various parts of the computer. Grades 2 - 5 will begin Keyboarding by visiting select websites while K and 1 will brush up on their mouse skills.

September 4 -14


We will continue our Keyboarding Unit. Grades 1 - 2 will work on Basic Keyboarding Skills by using Sunburst's Type to Learn, JR software and Grades 3 - 5 will use Type to Learn3 software.
Standard NTK-12.1

Kindergarteners will contiue working on "mouse skills" by visiting www.abcya.com.

All students will be introduced to "Clicky McClickerson" and reminded that "Crazy Clicking Gets You Nowhere". No one wants to be a Clicky McClickerson, do they?

Keyboarding Skills tickets can be earned by demonstrating outstanding effort! Be sure to remind your students or child to watch their posture, hand, and finger placement. When a a student has earned two tickets they may exchange them for a special treat from the computer lab. (See Mrs. Parker for more details.)

September 17 - 21
All grades will continue to focus on keyboarding and Mouse skills.
Standard NTK-12.1
Kindergarteners will spend time exploring www.starfall.com. They will learn that you can "Navigate a ship, a plane, and a website"!

Grades1 and 2 will gain their Type to Learn certificates and be introduced to MS Word.

Grades 3 - 5 will participate in the BES Keyboarding Challenge. The class at the highest level, with the highest accuracy rate on Type to Learn 3 will receive a certificate proclaiming them the BES Keyboarders of Week! Congratulations to the current leaders 3rd grade Krisher's Crushers!

Mrs. Harlow's Heros and Mr. Krisher's Crushers earned "Proper Keyboarding Skills" tickets for demonstrating outstanding effort! Congratulations!

The lab has adopted a pet! Come by and meet Clicky McClickerson our new hermit crab.

September 24 - 25



All classes will discuss the parts of the computer. Grades 2 - 5 will being working on our "buzzwords", Icon, Desktop and Monitor.

K-1 will play "Mrs. Parker Says" while focusing on:

Kindergarteners will continue to practice their mouse skills by navigating their way through www.Noggin.com.
We will look at the site as a group and talk about different areas we can visit.

Grades 1 and 2 will continue exploring MS Word.

Grades 3 - 5 will continue participating in the BES Keyboarding Challenge! Congratulations to our current leaders 5th grade Harlow's Heroes!

Keep practicing those Proper Keyboarding Skills! If you're spotted using the correct technique you could receive a ticket. Collect two tickets, return them to Mrs. Parker in the lab and choose a treat from the box! 2 tickets = 1 treat!

All third through fifth graders will participate in the "Show Me Character" survey until completion.
Kindergarteners will focus on fall activities, and beginning sight words with the help of www.starfall.com
First and Second graders will help me "rate" websites to add to our "free-time" list by visiting www.computerlab kids, then clicking on "What can I do in the lab?". They will "Navigate" and explore their options, visit many websites and assist in compling a list of Approved Free-Time websites.

The "Show Me Character" survey continues with all 3rd through 5th graders.

Kindergarteners will expand on their mouse skills by exploring http://www.sesameworkshop.org/sesamestreet/.

First graders will work in MS Word. We will take the word "RAINBOW" and change the font and color of each letter then illustrate our page.

Second graders will begin making "ABC" or "sight word" books for our Kindergarten EIP students. Each 2nd grader will be assigned a few "letters" or "sight words" and asked to create and illustrate pages for a book using MS Word. We will then assemble the pages into books.

Third graders will visit www.iknowthat.com to work on mulitplication at the request of classroom teachers. We will use theSmartboard along with the "Block" game as a format for a game show challenge.

4th and 5th graders have earned a free week by working so diligently on their keyboarding and by completing thier "Show Me Character" Survey.

January finds Technology focusing on the CRCT, Internet Safety (NT.K-12.2), and Internet Research Skills (NT.K-12.5). Students in grades 1 - 5 will begin most days with two “teacher assigned” practice tests before moving on to free-time on approved websites or required Technology Curriculum. Students may test at home at www.georgiaoas.org. If you have not obtained your child’s login or password please email me at tanya.parker@barrow.k12.ga.us or ask your child’s teacher for more information.
Kindergartens have been "reading" the book 50 Below Zero by Robert Munsch on www.tumblebooks.com (all students encouraged to visit- login: bethlehem password: books) in the computer lab. Upon completing the story, they took a quick quiz and completed a mini book report!! (Who knew Kindergarteners could retell a story so well?) Kindergarteners will continue to polish their mouse skills and begin to work on early reading skills by visiting www.starfall.com and www.sesameworkshop.org later in the month.
